About Us

Who We Are

Hogar CREA is a non-profit organization with over half a century of presence and significant contributions to the prevention and recovery of alcohol and substance abuse. The organization was founded in 1968 by Juan José García Ríos in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico. Hogar CREA (its acronym in Spanish), in English, stands for “Home and Community for the Re-Education of Persons with Addictions”. Hogar CREA is driven by a philosophy that believes in the responsibility of the individual and the group, mutual assistance, and self-effort.

Hogar CREA, Inc. has centers that operate throughout the US, Puerto Rico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. In the US, there are facilities in Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania, there are centers in Bethlehem, Reading and Allentown.

Hogar CREA provides a home-like environment to all residents, and participants in our programs. At Hogar Crea, the participants receive Peer-led interventions, and receive the support they need to build a sound character, and take responsibility for their own behavior and life choices.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Hogar CREA, our philosophy is that everyone is born with the natural instinct of self-respect and dignity. We understand the importance of treating self-respect like a plant that needs care and cultivation until the roots become strong enough to withstand whatever life throws at you. A disturbance can affect the growth of individual self-respect. Mutual support goes a long way in helping our roots reach deeper and hold more strongly to strengthen our foundation. The environment we provide helps our residents overcome the obstacles that prevent them from achieving maturity, self-respect, and dignity.

CREA is also our symbol and it represents the desire to create and rise from a life of addiction. Alcohol and drug abuse will cause a human to destroy themselves, their family, and the community. When the participants enter Hogar CREA, and complete the recovery program, they are transformed; leading to the creation of habits, positive qualities, manners, customs, and attitudes, that prepare them to recover with dignity their place in the community.

VISION

The development of a private and nonprofit residential and drug-free therapeutic community environment, and programs that promote community-based and long-term solutions. A program that adapts to the needs of those with drug dependency, providing relief and harm reduction for themselves and their loved ones. A program that works as a solution without boundaries of borders, introducing the concept of faith, and bringing hope to everyone who is affected by substance abuse.

MISSION

To serve the homeless and the needy. Hogar CREA is a nonprofit organization driven by the goal to prevent and address drug addiction in everyone.

Our therapeutic model covers holistically the needs if participants, including social, biological, spiritual, and psychological aspects holistically. The interventions are provided in a community atmosphere, with therapeutic properties, and focus on the development of a strong character.

We believe that God is the light that guides everyone that is part of Hogar CREA. This includes the Employees, Reeducated, Steering Committee Members, Collaborating Members, Relatives Committees, and Family among others. We are always engaged in setting the right example and all our efforts are focused on the heart of our Movement – to SERVE.

We receive participants from Florida and surrounding states.
